As members of the body of Christ, the church, we are people with a mission, a set of marching orders that was given in Jerusalem nearly 2,000 years ago and which still call us to the work of the gospel. And to fufill that mission, and our role within it, it helps greatly to understand our own history and how the church of today came to be. In this 5-week series, we’ll examine the history of the early church, beginning with Pentecost (c. 30AD) and tracing the church’s relationship with the Roman Empire until it’s “fall” in 476 AD. We’ll study the major events of the period, the development of doctrine, the first creeds of Christianity, the key people who shaped Christian thought and some of the major questions of Christian theology that carry on ‘til this day!
Classes will be held at Canvas after worship (lunch will be provided), starting on Sunday, October 13th.
