Kirk’s Book of the Week(ish): Spiritual Direction by Martin Thornton
My favorite writer (or at least one of them), Martin Thornton, strikes again – this time offering a short introduction to the practice of spiritual direction. Intended mainly for up-and-coming spiritual directors, it gives loads of insight into the role of spiritual direction in the life of faith, the nature of the relationship between director and client, and how a healthy process of direction unfolds.
Thornton was one of the great historians of spiritual formation and a highly respected abbot in the Church of England. The book is a humorous and incredibly insightful read. (It has lots of helpful stuff on attrait, btw. If that sweetens the deal!)
